Specialty cinema screening is a rare bird in Bali so when something like Balinale comes along, hey someone please pop those popcorn! Held since 2007, May is usually the month the Balinale International Film Festival rolls out the red carpet to welcome cinephiles who prefers their indies not as a side dish. From acclaimed European art houses to curated features made by budding homegrown and Asian filmmakers, the festival presents a cornucopia of cultures on celluloid (or whatever format they are making films these days) that you simply can’t miss.
