SUE BAKER
ULTIMATELY, BE KIND TO YOURSELF.

TIPS
• Find love in something that destresses you: long slow walks, yoga, reading.
• Give yourself regular rest days - being at the gym every day doesn’t equal better quality training: Quality over Quantity
• Journal - write to-dos lists, set goals, and talk to friends when needed.
• Try not to compare your journey to someone else’s.

1. EYES ON THE PRIZE
Keep your eyes focused forward throughout the whole lift. weightlifting is all about balance. Just like standing on one leg, if you’re throwing your head around all over the place you’re going to fall over!
2. HOOK GRIP
You’ll need to wrap your thumb under your fingers. Although uncomfortable at first, this will be the only way you’ll be able to hold onto the bar once the weights start getting serious!
3. BAR PATH
Move your body around the bar rather than the bar around your body. Think about the bar always traveling in a straight line. This will give you much more balance in the catch!

4. FOOTWORK FOOTWORK FOOTWORK!
Start with your feet in your jumping stance for maximum upward momentum. Catch the bar with your feet in your squat stance for maximum strength. Remember, your legs are the boost on the way up and the brakes on the way back down!
5. SMILE
Weightlifting is supposed to be fun! Missing lifts is not fun! Learn to lift, don’t learn to miss! Master the baby weights with perfect technique and enjoy the journey! See you at the bar!
