JUNE

A fine sneak peek of their numerous traditions and the mythos that drives the proceedings. The opening alone is a must see grand event, held on the grounds of the majestic Bajra Sandhi Monument in Renon; the streets adorned with traditional dancers and musicians dressed up to the nines (or ten). Rivaling, if not better, other more renowned parades out there. The festivities usually end with theatrical performances with plotting taken from one of the Balinese Hindu’s folklores. The rest of the festival will then continue daily at the main venue, Werdhi Budaya Art Centre, in Denpasar.

ARHETA

Hailing from West Java, Indonesia, powerhouse songstress Arheta’s unique brand of gritty rhythm and blues has quickly propelled her through the ranks of the SE Asian music scene, establishing her as the premiere female blues act in the region. Audiences from Malaysia to Morocco to Abu Dhabi to China to Singapore have thrilled to her highenergy stage show and electrified festival sound. For her 2021 debut album, HEAL, Arheta has assembled an international all-star team of toplevel talent while also writing or co-writing each song on the album herself.

She credits her many years as a touring singer, followed by a return to her Bali home, as the inspiration to finally release her own original brand of blues music. “Getting around a country of 260,000,000 people across 20,000 islands in less than 7 years – I’ve paid my dues and I’m proud of it!” says Arheta.

HEAL

Joining forces with veteran American record producer/ drummer Deane Ogden, HEAL details the culmination of Arheta’s last four years of life on the road, away from family and familiarity, and back again to her guitar-driven RnB origins as one of Indonesia’s favored daughters.

SUPERMAN, arheta’s lead single off HEAL is available on Spotify, Bandcamp, Amazon, Apple Music, TIDAL, Google Play, and wherever music is streamed or sold.

UBUD VILLAGE JAZZ FESTIVAL

All that jazz, and then some. Ubud Vilage Jazz Festival has been held less than a decade, but it’s already became one of the most anticipated fests on the island. Jazz is indeed best enjoyed live, and UVJF welcomes to the stage an electrifying lineup of local and international performers that could even convert those who thinks the genre as “elevator music” (they exist). Often veterans like Indra Lesmana share the stage with the year’s upand-comers to jam it free-style and they’re a hoot! The top notch line up and the open space venue (recently at ARMA Museum garden) have together created this wonderfully laid-back ambiance and we’re definitely hoping for another encore come this August.

BALI SPIRIT FESTIVAL

Last but not least, the Bali Spirit Festival for some inward rumination and connecting with your tribes. Founded in 2008, the weeklong Ubud-bound festival is a modern-day hippy gathering that is heavy on yoga, chanting, meditation, sound healing and breathwork, wellness healing, and let loose with ecstatic dance-likeno-ones-watching session. You also have your pick of seminars, community markets for organic- and veganfriendly items, and world music performances. It will be an otherworldly experience and that is probably the goal. One thing’s for sure, it’s all about good vibration! Save the date as they arrive on 5 – 10 April 2022.
